Cameroon's National Medical Council raises alarm over strained conditions for doctors

Date: Apr 18, 2024

Cameroon's National Medical Council, an association of medical doctors, has raised alarm over the strenuous conditions doctors operate under in the country.

It says one doctor has to take care of 50 000 patients instead of the World Health Organisation recommended one doctor per 10 000 patients.

Officials say 75% of the 1000 doctors the government trains each year are fleeing hardship, poor pay and difficult working conditions to developed countries.
